Last week we went to Havana, Cuba. During our trip we visited some places we think are essential to go, if you ever visit Havana.
1.El Capitolio or National Capitol Building:
Its design is similar to the United States
Capitol and to The Pantheon of Paris,it is a huge and beautiful building. An
important characterisitic of this building is that when the construction of the
national road network of Havana started, the kilometer zero was symbolically
marked by a diamond placed under the Capitol dome. It is a pity that when we went it was being repaired and restored but it is worth it to go and
contemplate it.
2.Great Theatre of Havana “Alicia Alonso”:
.
This historic building is located next to “El
Capitolio” and it has been home to the International Ballet Festival of Havana. It has recently been restored so the details of the facade are now
more visible. It is the principal venue for the Cuban National Ballet and to
which Claudia belonged when she was a child. There are constantly shows and with a huge
variety, as despite of ballet there are also opera or flamenco shows, so I
recommend you to go and watch any show at this theatre.
3.Christ of Havana:
This large sculpture that represents Jesus of Nazareth, is located on a hilltop overlooking the bay in Havana. This marble statue is 20 meters tall and it is a very touristy place because it is typical to take a picture standing beside the statue.
4.La Bodeguita del Medio & El Floridita:
La Bodeguita del Medio is a restaurant-bar of
Havana and it is a famous tourist destination because this bar claims that it
is the birthplace of the Mojito cocktail, so if you want to drink the authentic
Cuban mojito this is your perfect place to go.
El Floridita is similar to La Bodeguita del
Medio as it is a cocktail bar and fish restaurant, famous for its daiquiris, so
you might go as well.
The Malecón is a 8 kilometres pier along the
coast of Havana, it is the perfect place to sit and relax for hours, especially
at night when people of all ages go there to talk, sing and dance. We personally
recommend you to sit on the Malecón and just observe the sea or talk with
someone.
